What a perfect day
We had a nice cruise over to whitehave beach for the beach party which was on today... we got there just when 2 of the big maxi's were getting there after they finished racing... we swam into the beach with a bucket full of beers which we had kept cold in the bottom of the boat with lots of ice covering them... unfortunately by the time we found out where the food was, it was all over :( whitehaven beach is a really nice place, though you really need to make sure that you wear sunnies... they had some entertainment there... beach volleyball and bouy racing where they had to carry a big bouy around this girl that was standing on a milk crate and back to where they started from... they had 2 teams of 5 racing at a time... one guy got his arm majorly tangled in the bouy and it took about 5-10 mins to get him free so I think they killed the bouy racing.. they had a tent where they had very strict sales of beer (couldn't go outside the fence) though it was kinda cool cause they were only selling crappy XXXX beer inside the tent and we had our own beer which ran out just when we were going to leave... we had a great trip there and back... spinnaker up a lot of the way in both directions... we had a bit of a race (not at all serious... more making an effort to try to keep the same gap) with brindabella on the trip home... they were about a mile or so behind us and we pretty much kept the gap the same we only had a kite up, they had main and little kite... hmmm dont' think I wrote about whitehaven... it's a really big long beach which has really really white sand... it's pretty nice :) oh yeh, it seems that shockwave, the new kiwi maxi that's racing here is the quickest maxi in the world... it's regularly beating brindabella and wild thing by bigger margins than sayonara was able to beat brindabella... shockwave seems to be pretty well wound up... it's full of guys off team new zealand... oh yeh, we've been working out what we need to do to win... it's looking pretty good :) if the 8 wins and we get 4th then I think we've won :) so I think the go tomorrow is to take it pretty easy... just follow them around the track and we should be pretty close to them... bohica opted out of going to whitehaven today instead working on the boat to fix stuff that went wrong yesterday... they bent one of their wings, stuffed one of the kite halyard jammers and they need a heap more rake in their rig (their mast needs to be angled back a lot more)... we aren't terribly worried if they win tommorrow... from here on in it's just between us and the thompson 8...
