Day 88, August 19th

it got down to 42 degrees last night, and i was too cold to get much sleep until morning when the sun started coming up. so i didn't get up and out from my sleeping bag until after 1:00. since my bath in the river didn't happen last night, i had planned to do it this morning. but by the time i got up, a few other park visitors and campers had shown up. so i covered up my greasy hair with a bandana, cleaned under my fingernails, and vowed a shower would be in my very near future. Four days was long enough....

i stopped at the library for a couple of hours in Iron Mountain, just across the state line into Michigan. i had realized sometime yesterday that i had read my map of the UP wrong and what i thought was Whitefish Point was actually Copper Harbor. so i had come about 50 miles too far west. but the good news is at least i hadn't gone the entire 200 miles before realizing it.

i left Iron Mountain headed east on Hwy 2 to Escanaba. it was only a short 50 mile drive, and i pulled into the Wal-Mart as soon as i got into town. The north woods of Wisconsin and the entire UP of Michigan are rural and fairly undeveloped. and there are alot of parks and forest lands to camp in. but after last night, i had decided sleeping in the Jeep might be a warmer option.

Lesson of the Day: I need a shower!!! i'm starting to get grouchy....

Total Miles: 75
