Queremos pastel…

Our friends daughter Nicole celebrated her 5th birthday Feb.26 in El Negrito with a piñata and cake. She is a spunky little kid that questions Karen’s gender role since she has seen her doing machete work on the lawn. She once told Karen God would punish her for doing a man’s work.
I arrived in El Negrito late in the morning and the family showed me around. There were more kids than adults there, which should be expected for a 5-year-old’s birthday.
Yvonne’s family is very hospitable. They plied me with food and fresco (or soda) and later her husband Mario gave me a couple of Salva Vida Beers. We talked about our past lives in the military institutions of our respective countries.
It was a pretty standard Honduran birthday party. I met a lot of great people. We ate. The kids busted up a piñata. Nicole opened her gifts, and was really excited at what her friends and family brought her.
We are glad to call this family our friends.
