Churros Anyone
I have finally given my first workshop on making purses out of potato chip bags or churros as they are called here. The women's group is called Las FLores and they are from an aldea far away from Morazan called Ocotillo. They are affiliated with Aecopijol, an environmental NGO, and have a desire to get this project underway. The purse making involves collecting many churro bags that must be washed, cut and folded to form links that are later sewed. I thought it would be easy to teach these eager women, but many do not feel comfortable holding scissors or know how to cut a straight line. They were also a little impatient hopping to have restults fast, but this is a labor intensive project that requires patience and time. The president of the group has given up because she could not understand the folding aspect of the purse making. The best one is a 11 year old girl that had gone with her mother. She was the first to really grasp the work and finish a purse. We hope to bew selling them soon here in our town as well as the web.
